A Local Baker - St Andrews is a small, family-owned artisan bakery that produces organic sourdough breads and a range of handmade cakes and savouries, all lovingly baked in our woodfired oven which dates all the way back to 1850.
The oven was originally housed in Port Melbourne where the first St Andrews baker discovered and saved it by bringing it out to St Andrews, brick by brick, and lovingly restoring it. We are proud to bake all of our breads, cakes and savouries following traditional methods in our woodfired oven. Baking in a woodfired oven imparts a unique texture and flavour and a true artisan product.
A traditional handmade organic sourdough bread is also healthy and different because of its simple ingredients - water, flour and salt - and its traditional process. The process includes resting the dough for a minimum of 6 hours from mixing to baking. This resting time also gives the bread a unique flavour and texture, and it is easy to digest because the gluten has already been broken down for you in the resting process. This is bread made the way it’s been made for thousands of years.

We are located at 83 Burns Street, St Andrews - we share a carpark and are surrounded by three other St Andrews icons: A Boy Named Sue, Punch Wine Room and the St Andrews Hotel. We are also across the road from the popular St Andrews Market which takes place each Saturday morning.
Locals of St Andrews, Hurstbridge and surrounds as well as other lovers of artisan bakeries and artisanal sourdough are our regulars - people who appreciate high quality organic products and understand the natural variation that is part of an artisanal product.
